Real Estate in Victoria has been growing at a very steady rate since the mid 80’s. The recent high growth rate experienced in large Western Canadian cities such as Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver has also had an affect on the Victoria and Vancouver Island real estate market. Homes in the higher-end areas of Victoria like Rockland, Fairfield and James Bay, often go for over $1,000,000. If you are looking for a bargain home in Victoria try areas like Hillside and Sears, but homes in these areas will still cost $350,000+.

Victoria is the Provincial Capital for the Province of British Columbia. The Hudson’s Bay Company founded Fort Camosun near Victoria in 1843. The name of the fort was later changed to Fort Victoria in honour of the Queen. The Colony of Vancouver Island was established in 1849 and Victoria was named as the Capital. Victoria remained the capital when the island colony united with the mainland, as well as when British Columbia entered Confederation in 1871. Currently Victoria is also home to three universities: The University of Victoria, Camosun College, and Provincial Legislature is located in Victoria. Other significant landmarks of the city include: Butchart Gardens, Victoria Butterfly Gardens, and the Royal BC Museum. Visitors could also take in sporting events by watching teams such as: The Victoria Grizzlies, The Victoria Salmon Kings, Victoria United, Victoria Shamrocks, or the University of Victoria Vikes. Tourists and locals can also enjoy a touch of culture with The Victoria Symphony, The Royal Theatre or The McPherson Playhouse. Check on all current Victoria news and events at the city’s daily newspaper The Victoria Times Colonist.
