Real Estate in Kelowna has been increasing in price steadily for the last couple of decades. In fact, prices in Kelowna are now among the least affordable in Canada, behind only Vancouver. The high prices stem from the fact that Kelowna, and the rest of the Okanagan are such great places to be all year round. In the summer the lakes are warm and the sun shines. In the winter the ski hills have great snow, and the cities in the valley are still enjoyable.

Kelowna is home to about 105,000 people. When you include the Metropolitan area the population rises to about 165,000. The area enjoys a steady stream of retirees looking for the good life, tourists who fall in love with the region, and people looking to work in the service industry. Kelowna is home to the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, the soccer club Okanagan Challenge, as well as the free weekly newspaper The Kelowna Capital News.

Kelowna was incorporated in 1905, but was originally settled by missionaries in 1859. The word ‘Kelowna’ means ‘female Grizzly Bear’ in the local indigenous language. Neighbouring towns include Westbank to the west across the lake, Lake Country and then Vernon to the north, Peachland to the southwest and further to the south, Summerland and Penticton. Resorts such as Big White Ski Resort attract tourist all year round, and contribute to Kelowna’s largest industry, tourism. Kelowna’s warm, dry climate is great for growing fruit such as apples and grapes, and the valley is home to numerous vineyards, wineries, and Sunrype, a popular manufacturer of fruit juice and snacks.
